chess free

This event will continue the tradition of great chess tournaments that the well-known southern German spa town has established over the last two centuries.
Baden-Baden is also renowned in the chess world as the home of OSG Baden-Baden, the most successful German club since the 1990s. In the same period we set up the Baden-Baden Chess Centre to lay the foundations for making Baden-Baden into an important centre for the European chess community.

The main event of the chess fortnight will be the Baden-Baden GRENKE Chess Classic, a supertournament providing three top German players with the chance to face three established world class players on their own soil.
The tournament is scheduled for 7-17 February 2013. The venue will be the historic halls of Kulturhaus LA8 (House of Culture) in the centre of Baden-Baden. The games will start daily at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. GMT) except for the last day when they start at 1 p.m. (12 p.m. GMT).
The main event will be complemented by several side tournaments – each limited to 80 players:
  • Chess Classic ELO Open (9 rounds, 9 days, only for players Elo 1800+ rated) 7 – 15 Feb 2013
  • Chess Classic Carnival (6 rounds, 3 days, open to all) 9 – 11 Feb 2013
  • Chess Classic Holiday (6 rounds, 3 days, open to all) 14 – 16 Feb 2013
